Hi everyone
We had an immediate response to our appeal earlier today to assist 12 students in Houston.
Sincere thanks to:
Ned McGinley, Past National President Ancient Order of Hibernians (www.aoh.com), and Pat Carroll, Founder of Touch Communications (www.touchcommunications.ie) and Failte 32 Strategic Partner, who mobilized their contacts in Texas to try to help these students.
Conor Doyle, who has lived in New York for the past five years, and currently works for the City of New York, and currently has a number of seasonal positions in the food/accommodation/retail/waitressing etc. sectors in NY that can pay up to $11 per hour. These jobs are ideal for Summer J1 visa holders, and are part of the City's very smart strategy of supporting in a meaningful way start up businesses, which are the main engine of growth in our economy. You can contact Conor at cdoyle@nycbusiness-solutions.com . Although it's Summer, please present yourself at an interview in a professional manner to maximize your chances of getting one of these positions.
Anne Doherty:
"I heard, today, that there are some J-1ers still without accommodation. I rent out a room in my apartment from time to time but usually to mature, working professionals; however, if you know of anyone who is stuck -- preferably female, quiet, clean, responsible and working, who comes recommended -- I would consider making an exception. Maybe someone who just needs a stop-gap for a couple of weeks or a month. It's a large, light-filled apartment in a safe building, nothing fancy but convenient to public transportation -- only 2 blocks from the A, C and 1 subways. Rent negotiable. Anne Doherty <acd20@hotmail.com .
Thank you for this very generous offer of support Anne. Anne is currently in transisiton, and if any of you know of an employer looking for an assistant with exceptional administrative skills, please contact Anne. You only have to meet Anne to realize that she is a highly professional business person and one who would be an asset to any well established company.
We kindly request that do what you can to help the following find a job for the Summer:
christyodowd@gmail.com (I wonder if he's any relation to Niall O'Dowd!!)
declan.c@hotmail.com Has experience working in his family pub back in Ireland.
They are all looking for any type of work in bars, hotels, restaurants, construction etc. The Irish have a reputation for having a great work ethic, so if you're an employer, please consider these new arrivals for a Summer position.
Thank you all for supporting our new arrivals from Ireland. This is a great example of how in such a short space of time (less than one day!), we can contribute to the solution, and reach out beyond New York to assist those in need. Just think of how much more we can do!
Kind regards
Failte 32 Committee
