BRITISH COLLUSION WITH LOYALIST PARAMILITARIES IN N IRELAND
NEEDS INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION

Washington, DC – Nov 8, 2006 - The US Special Northern
Ireland Envoy, Mitchell Reiss, must demand a complete and
independent inquiry into accusations of collusion between
loyalist paramilitaries and law enforcement agencies. This
week an international panel of human rights experts
confirmed that there is evidence of collusion between
British security forces and pro-British loyalist terrorists
in 74 sectarian murder in Northern Ireland

Dr. Robert Linnon, the President of the Irish American
Unity Conference, said: “This is the most recent report in
a series of independent investigations into collusion
allegations in Northern Ireland. They all found sufficient
evidence to recommend full and independent inquiries.

“However, the British government failed to take similar
recommendations of:

:: Sir John Stevens (former Metropolitan Police Commissioner),
:: John Stalker (Greater Manchester Deputy Chief Constable),
:: retired Canadian Judge Peter Cory (commissioned by the British Government),
:: Judge Henry Barron from the Republic of Ireland, and
:: several crown coroners.

“All the investigators found evidence to support
accusations of collusion in the case of sectarian murders
and their subsequent cover-ups.”

Dr. Linnon concluded: “It is time for the United States to
take the lead in the international community and demand a
full and independent investigation of these allegations.
The issue of police collusion in sectarian murder is
particularly sensitive now due to the current efforts to
establish a new beginning in the north. It is crucial that
nationalists see the Police Service of Northern Ireland as
being untainted by senior officers who have been involved in collusion.”
