ILIR: Senate Committe Vote Won! On to the full Senate!

Dear Friend of ILIR,

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU DID IT - WE HAVE WON ROUND ONE!

At 6.00pm on March 27, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted out a
comprehensive immigration reform bill which largely reflects McCain/Kennedy
on the provisions relating to the guest worker program and the treatment of
the undocumented who are already in the US.

This is a very positive development and is a direct result of your
contribution to the ILIR campaign over the past weeks.

Your phone calls, your faxes, your emails and your presence at the ILIR
meetings have had a major impact. And of course, there was the unforgettable
sight of hundreds of “Legalize The Irish” teams lobbying Congress in
Washington on March 8.

We have unquestionably won Round One, but Round Two will begin in the Senate
today, March 28, when the bill goes to the floor for two weeks of debate.

This is going to be a tough fight and it means we need you on the phones,
faxes and emails again.

But we need you to begin with some Thank You calls!

First off, we need you to call Chairman Arlen Specter (202) 224-4254 and
thank him for his courageous leadership.

We also need you to call Senator Kennedy (202) 224-4543 and Senator McCain
(202) 224-2235 and thank them for their superb legislation.

Lastly, we need to call the three Republican Senators who joined Senator
Arlen Specter, joined the Democrats and voted in favor of the bill. These are
Senator Brownback (202) 224-6521, Senator Graham (202) 224-5972 and Senator
DeWine (202) 224-2315.

Without these four gentlemen, we could not have won. They all need to know
that their efforts on our behalf are truly appreciated.

Senator for voting in favor of comprehensive immigration reform.
