Taoiseach Condemns Violence At Ulster Rally
25/02/2006 - 15:41:21
The Taoiseach is condemning today's violence in Dublin city
centre as disgraceful.
Bertie Ahern says there is no excuse for it and that it the
essence of Irish democracy and republicanism that people
are allowed express their views freely and in a peaceful
manner.
Mr Ahern says people who wantonly attack gardaí and
property have no respect for their fellow citizens.
He is also praising the Gardaí for their handling of the
disturbances.
The Taoiseach expressed appreciation for the bravery of the
Gardaí in dealing with a very tense situation and sympathy
for those who have been injured doing their duty.

Adams - Rioting In Dublin Entirely Wrong And Reprehensible
Published: 25 February, 2006
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP speaking has described
the actions of those responsible for rioting in Dublin city
centre this afternoon as 'entirely wrong and
reprehensible'.
Mr. Adams said:
"There is no justification for what happened this afternoon
in Dublin. Sinn Féin had appealed to people to ignore this
loyalist parade and not to be provoked by it. Our view was
that it should not be opposed in any way and we made that
clear.
"Regrettably a small, unrepresentative group, chose to
ignore our appeal. Their actions were entirely wrong and
reprehensible."ENDS
