The Irish and US governments have signed an agreement to
co-operate more to tackle terrorism, drug trafficking,
organised crime and fraud.
The US Ambassador, James C Kenny, and the Minister for
Justice, Michael McDowell, signed agreements at the US
Embassy in south Dublin this morning on mutual legal
assistance and extradition.
The agreements allow for the establishment of joint
investigation teams made up of gardaĆ and US police and the
use of video conferencing for taking witness statements.
It will also allow greater monitoring and searches of bank
accounts in Ireland and in the US and for information to be
exchanged.
