News 11/10/04 - IAUC Clarification
November 10, 2004
To Whom It May Concern:
The Irish American Unity Conference (IAUC) wants to address any
misunderstandings which arose from our member, Tom Madigan's
personal views sent in an email after the election. This was not an
official organizational communication but one member's opinion.
The IAUC remains committed to the principles of non- partisanship
both in the United States and in Ireland, north and south, as
identified in our Bylaws and Mission Statement.
Our record over the years speaks to our ideals. We have initiated
contacts on both sides of the political and religious divide in
Northern Ireland, and have worked with the elected governments in
the Republic of Ireland and Britain, regardless of political
affiliations. We have gratefully accepted support from both sides
of the aisle in Washington, D.C., and in State legislatures and
City Halls around the country.
At this time, the IAUC asks for our many supporters in this country
to pause and remember that at the heart of the problems in Northern
Ireland are human rights concerns. The Irish American Unity
Conference would like to take this opportunity to re- affirm our
principles of non-partisanship. The IAUC welcomes support for our
ideals from all who share them.
Action will be taken to prevent this type of miscommunication from
happening in the future.
Official communications are delivered on our letterhead and not on
personal emails.
John Fogarty
IAUC National Board Member
